"Veni, vidi, vicam," Eve mumbled to herself. I came, I saw, I will conquer. She had to conquer. It was her life that was in the line. In the back of her mind, she knew it was futile. Yet, she had to try. She would not go down like a coward.
Eve warily watched the brutes break into two units. One group flanked her right and the other her left. If they attacked in a united front with a single large charge, it was going to be the end of her life. It was the most brilliant move they could act upon if they decided to. It would end any of her chances of her incapacitating them one by one.
Though what was the point? She was dirt tired. There was little time for her to rejuvenate, and she doubted they would allow her a reprieve. She would need to stall any future advancements they may think. Perhaps, a little time would be enough to take another down. She had a theory how to temporarily halt them, but were they dense enough for it to work?
Eve knew she had to say the right words, or they would be her last if spoken incorrectly. Though not raised to play the fool, she entered the mummer's game today. Eve put herself into what she believed was a relaxed, non-threatening posture. She then took a plunge into danger and asked, "What are you?"
"What?" The leader was taken in surprise by her question. She made an exaggerated sigh and then asked the question again slowly.
"Is this a game?" the leader checked with his eyebrows shooting up and narrowing in suspension.
